How Is Oil Analysis Beneficial For Your Company?

How Is Oil Analysis Beneficial For Your Company?
May 2, 2020

The success of a company depends on good equipment performance. J&J Tamez conducts oil testing through a laboratory. It is crucial to invest in this predictive maintenance tool.
Our oil testing laboratory tests and analyzes a wide range of oils, with oil lab locations available worldwide. Our oil testing laboratory examines oils, including synthetic oils, crude oil, lubricants, and many more. Our Oil testing and analysis expertise determine oil quality, purity, contamination, and oil-condition by monitoring the following:

  • Oil Condition
  • Lubricants Testing
  • Transformer Oil Testing
  • Crude Oil Quality Testing

Oil analysis:

Oil analysis is a predictive maintenance tool that enables quick and accurate laboratory evaluations of lubricants used in equipment. Through this process, it’s possible to detect moving parts’ wear and the presence of contaminating substances.
With a precise oil analysis diagnosis, the team responsible for the maintenance of your company’s equipment can quickly anticipate possible errors and avoid compromising service performance or product quality. By relying on oil analysis, companies only have benefits to gain—the life of parts increases, unnecessary oil changes decrease, and unskilled maintenance work minimizes.

How does it work?

For better results, companies carefully go through the oil analysis process. The 1st step is to identify the need to invest and plan for predictive maintenance. The 2nd step is to define which equipment will be monitored. The 3rd and last step is determining the necessary tools for program implementation and collection of fluids. Then, oil samples are analyzed.

Types of analysis:

There are four main types of oil analysis:

Physico-chemical analysis:

Assess the lubricant conditions either in time or in periodic phases.

Contamination analysis:

Identifies the presence of substances that may contaminate the system. The oil may be contaminated due to equipment wear or chemical reactions of the lubricant.

Spectrometry:

With this method, it is possible to identify the chemical elements present in the lubricant. The oil goes through a combustion process and disintegrates into the atomic level. This analysis exists to obtain more accurate information about wear, contamination, and to identify additives.

Ferrography:

In this process, we analyze the particles found in the lubricants to identify the degree and reason for the wear of machines and equipment.

Advantages of Oil analysis:

The main point is so the oil-analysis program anticipates problems that help schedule repair work to avoid downtime during a critical time of use.

Early detection can:

  • Reduce repair bills
  • Reduce catastrophic failures
  • Increase machinery life
  • Reduce non-scheduled downtime.
